WHAT IS FREEVIEW TV?
Freeview is digital telivision in the UK. It is free and is set to become the standard tele format in the UK, taking over the analogue. It’s called the ‘digital switchover’.
It launched in 2002, part owned by BBC, crown castle UK and DSKYB, ITV and Channel 4. The service broadcasts free tv programmes, radio station and an interactive service which includes a very sophisticated version of teletext. Things like games, and use of ‘the red button’ are just some of the features.
THE FREEVIEW TV SWITCHOVER
2007 stats show that 60 million TV sets are using Freeview now. In preperation for ‘the digital switchover’ nearly all new teles now come ready with Freeview, and it is highly recommended that you buy a tele with freeview installed already. If you’re not replacing your TV you have to get a freeview box which can be purchased for quite cheap from most electrical stores.
Freeview is now in New Zealand, France and Spain.
FREEVIEW TV COSTS
Freeview, as the name suggests is FREE… however, there are some subscription channels you can pay for as an optional extra.
